Podcasting

Podcasts in the classroom have many benefits. Podcasts allow students to express opinions as well as build upon ICT, research and communicatin skills. Podcasts allow studnets and parents to access class information at home. Students also don't have the uneasy feeling of speaking in front of the class when using podcasts. Podcasts can be used for peer teaching, creating oral histories, audio tours, to publish student work or even creating a student radio. There are unlimited uses for podcasts.

TPACK Framework

Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knoledge (TPACK) is a framework based on Shulman's idea of pedagogical content knowledge used by teachers in a technologically enhanced learning environment to understand and describe knowledge for effective pedagogical practice.

Technological knowledge allows teachers to use computers, interactive whiteboards, programs and other technology in the classroom. Content knowledge is the knowledge of a specific subject taught such as English, maths and science. Pedagogical knowledge is the way the content knowlege is taught.

The following diagram show how these three knowleges link together.

Content knowledge and Pedagogical knowledge meet to allow the content to be effectivly taught. Pedagogical knowledge and Technological knowlege meet to know how to use technology to effectivly whilst teaching. Technological and Content knowlege meet to allow the teacher to understand how the technology used supports the content being taught.

Digital Natives - Digital Immigrants

I believe that since digital natives were born into a digital world, it would be very hard to put away technology in the classroom and go back to pencil, paper and books. This is because the students are heavily reliant on technology. Therefore, even though it would be difficult, digital immigrants should embrace technology and its advancements to engage and ensure successful learning by their students.

Engage or Enrage

I feel that in order to keep students in school, teachers need to proided engaging activites that cater for the needs of all students. when completing activites that they enjoy, students are less likely to go off the rails and can enjoy coming to school.
Welcome to my Blog! Over the next few weeks this blog will be used for educational purposes within the course Managing eLearning. By the end of this course the knowledge of the way technology can be used within a classroom will be increased in pre service teachers. Happy reading!
